Proposed ACA Changes Will Roll Back Protection For Abortion Care And LGBTQ Patients, Say Lawmakers

Lawmakers in Connecticut say a Trump administration rule change to the Affordable Care Act would remove health care protections for LGBTQ residents.

The Trump administration proposed a change to regulations earlier this year that would undo rules requiring health care providers to care for transgender patients.

Blumenthal says federal law has uniformly prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

“Now this administration in effect wants to turn back the clock, roll back the law and enable rampant, systematic discrimination.”

The rule change would also remove requirements for health care providers to care for patients who have had an abortion.

The Trump administration says the original rule misinterprets laws relating to religious freedom.
