Democratic party leaders in Bridgeport, Connecticut, endorsed sitting mayor Joe Ganim for an eighth term as mayor.
Ganim is challenged in the Democratic primary by State Senator Marilyn Moore. Her district includes parts of Bridgeport, Monroe and Trumbull.
Ganim got 74 votes from Democratic committee members. Moore got 11 votes.
Ganim was a former Bridgeport mayor who returned to politics in 2015 after spending seven years in prison for corruption. He lost the endorsement in the last election cycle to former mayor Bill Finch, but went on to defeat Finch in the primary.
This year’s Democratic primary in Bridgeport is set for September 10.
