Bridgeport, Connecticut, mayor Joe Ganim says he’s raised more than $300,000 for his re-election campaign – about three times that of his primary opponent.
Ganim is challenged by State Senator Marilyn Moore. Her district includes parts of Bridgeport, Monroe and Trumbull.
Ganim says he raised more than $100,000 in the second quarter of 2019 and has about $230,000 cash on-hand. Ganim says his donations come from small business owners, union workers and others in the community.
Moore says about 1,000 people have donated to her campaign.
“The majority of the money is coming from the community. From people who are interested in having a different Bridgeport, and they’re willing to invest their hard-earned money.”
Both candidates are Democrats. Moore hopes to unseat Ganim in the party primary in September.
Ganim is seeking his eighth term as mayor. He was a former Bridgeport mayor who returned to politics in 2015 after spending seven years in prison for corruption.
