Federal, state and local law enforcement officials in New York announced the dismantling of a gun trafficking ring on Long Island.
Four individuals were indicted and charged for illegally selling 32 firearms, including an assault weapon, to undercover police officers.
New York Attorney General Letitia James says they traced the weapons to gun dealerships in southern states like South Carolina and Georgia.
“These guns are coming from states with lax gun laws. Again they represent the iron pipeline, and they pose a threat to residents in the state of New York. It’s an issue that I’m hoping these states will take into consideration because they keep ending on the streets of New York State.”
The four defendants are charged with criminal sale of a firearm, criminal possession of weapons and conspiracy for their participation in the illegal gun trafficking operation. If convicted, they face up to 25 years in prison.
