When the Metropolitan Opera premiered a new work by Howard Hanson, the audience had a very STRONG opinion. Lucky for the composer, it was a positive one. After that first performance of “Merry Mount,” the crowd at the Met stood and applauded and applauded…and applauded. For more than 20 years, Lauren has demystified classical music for her audiences by taking it off a dusty old pedestal and putting it into a modern context. She lives on Long Island with her husband and two punky schnauzers.
