When Edouard Lalo was given four months to throw together a ballet, he got things started but then suffered a bit of a breakdown. Luckily, his friend and fellow composer Charles Gounod stepped in to help Lalo finish up the orchestration. The piece that pushed Lalo over the edge, today on Afternoon Classics.

For more than 20 years, Lauren has demystified classical music for her audiences by taking it off a dusty old pedestal and putting it into a modern context. She lives on Long Island with her husband and two punky schnauzers.
