Suffolk County residents won’t find polystyrene foam containers and single-use plastic straws at stores or restaurants starting this year.
A law went into effect this week banning the sale and use of disposable single-use plastic containers and beverage utensils.
Plastic straws and coffee stirrers will still be available to customers upon request to accommodate people with disabilities and seniors.
The ban is an effort by the county to reduce the use of plastics that pollute Long Island shores.
