A Connecticut judge has approved a $9 million settlement between the state and the brother of a man who was abused numerous times at the state’s only maximum-security psychiatric hospital.

The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee has shot down a plan that would have closed the emergency room at Long Island's only VA hospital in Northport and relocated most services to other hospitals.

The Norwalk and Danbury hospitals have officially merged. Officials made the announcement Wednesday night at the Norwalk Hospital’s annual meeting.
