The Fairfield Conservation Commission has criticized a new proposal made by Aquarion that would divert water to southwestern Connecticut.

Aquarion’s plan would be to divert up to 14 million gallons a day from the Greater Bridgeport System — seven million more than the current allowed amount.

The commission warns that could harm the Mill River and the wildlife it supports.

Two petitions were granted by the state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. A public hearing on the proposal will be scheduled for May.
