Connecticut Democrats want to create a state-level office to prepare for future pandemics.A group of lawmakers led by State Senator Cathy Osten say they’ll put forward a bill to create an Office of Pandemic Preparedness. The role would focus on preparing testing, emergency stockpiles and social services.
Osten says the office would also create a medical manufacturing pipeline so the state didn’t have to rely on high prices or uncertain supply chains for PPE. And it would create a plan for schools to address staff shortages — such as allowing districts to share teachers.
The next legislative session begins in January.
