Sacred Heart University in Connecticut will assume management of the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport in the New Year.
The Discovery Museum is just down the street from Sacred Heart’s campus in Fairfield.
Under the terms of the deal, Sacred Heart will modernize and enhance the museum’s exhibits. The planetarium was updated over the past year.
In addition, the University will develop interactive programs in science and technology, and hold STEM events for school children. The museum will also be used for professional development.
Sacred Heart President John J. Petillo said this is a way the school will give back to the surrounding community.
The term of the agreement is 67 years.
Sacred Heart University is the licensee of WSHU Public Radio.
