Sacred Heart University in Connecticut will assume management of the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport in the New Year.
Under the terms of the deal announced on Tuesday, Sacred Heart will modernize and enhance the museum’s exhibits. The planetarium was updated over the past year.
In addition, the University will develop interactive programs in science and technology, and hold STEM events for school children. The museum will also be used for professional development.
The Discovery Museum is located down the street from Sacred Heart’s Fairfield campus.
Sacred Heart President John J. Petillo said this is a way the school will give back to the surrounding community.
The term of the agreement is 67 years.
Sacred Heart University is the licensee of WSHU Public Radio.
