Citizens Oppose Offshore Wind Farm In Wainscott

New York State has backed a plan to have an offshore wind power cable run through Wainscott, Long Island.

A group called Citizens for the Preservation of Wainscott has fought the South Fork Wind Farm project. They got nearly 1,500 residents to sign a petition in opposition of the project.

The group has proposed an alternative route that would run aground in Amagansett instead. They say it is better for the environment.

A spokeswoman for offshore wind developer Orsted told Newsday that they analyzed all possible routes and are confident that the Wainscott route is safest for the environment.
