Bridgeport Park Board Votes Unanimously To Restore Columbus Statue

The Bridgeport Park Board  in Connecticut has voted unanimously to let Mayor Joe Ganim put back the Christopher Columbus statue at Seaside Park, a month after it was removed abruptly.

Banjed Labrador, the board’s president, said the mayor has 45 days to put it back into the park and hopes that the decision would bring the debate over the monument’s future together.

Ganim had said he removed the statue to protect it from any possible vandalism, following protests about the Italian explorer's infamous legacy of colonialism and violence against Indigenous people.
