A New York State Department of Health worker gives instructions to a person seeking a coronavirus test at a COVID-19 drive-through testing site at Jones Beach State Park on Long Island, Wednesday in Wantaugh, N.Y.

New York has opened drive-through testing for coronavirus in Nassau County at Jones Beach.

County Executive Laura Curran says health workers and people who are most vulnerable to infection will get top priority for the tests.

“We are going to use proper, official channels between Nassau County and the New York State Office of Emergency Management to prioritize testing for our first responders, for our healthcare providers and for people with underlying medical conditions.”

Drive-through tests allow people to stay in their car as health care workers ask questions and check for signs of coronavirus. It’s a method that helps keep the virus from spreading.
