Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont declared a state of emergency to combat the spread of the new Coronavirus.
Lamont made the move as more cases mount across state lines in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
He said this will help the state ramp up testing for people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 patients.
“It means that we can be broader based in what we do," Lamont said. "Right now we test those who are most at risk, maybe we test those who are coming back from one of those tier one or tier two countries that are most likely to add to the contagion.”
Lamont will also have the power to quarantine, as well as close public schools and other state-run facilities.
Connecticut health officials have tested at least 56 residents. So far, two tested positive. Officials say 19 more await testing on Tuesday.
