King Endorses Garbarino To Replace Him

Office of Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino
Assemblyman Garbarino discusses budget matters at the Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on Health Care in Albany.

U.S. Representative Peter King of New York has endorsed Republican State Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino to run for his congressional seat. King announced last fall that he wouldn’t seek a 15th term. King has represented New York's 2nd Congressional District for 28 years.

His endorsement of Garbarino follows support from state and Long Island GOP leaders. However, a Republican primary is still possible.

Assemblyman Mike LiPetri, Suffolk County Elections Commissioner Nick LaLota and county health official Nancy Hemendinger also want the nomination. The Republican primary will be held on June 23.

Long Island Democrats support Babylon Councilwoman Jackie Gordon.
