Long Island Republicans have endorsed State Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino in the race to replace U.S. Representative Peter King in New York’s 2nd Congressional District.

Garbarino has served in the State Assembly for eight years.

He would run to replace Peter King in a swing district that voted for President Trump in 2016. King is stepping down after serving more than three decades in Congress.

It’s unclear if Garbarino will face a contested primary.

Long Island Democrats are backing Babylon Town Councilmember Jackie Gordon for the 2020 race.
