Bridgeport Official Resigns Amid Scandal

The head of Public Works for the City of Bridgeport has resigned almost a year after the FBI disclosed the department was the subject of an investigation.

John Ricci had been placed on leave after it came out that he let employees sell scrap and put the profits in a petty cash fund at the department.

Hearst Connecticut Media reports two city workers also filed sexual harassment complaints against Ricci with the state.

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim thanked Ricci for his service in a written statement. Ricci worked on Ganim’s re-election campaign this fall.

Cassandra Basler, a former senior editor at WSHU, came to the station by way of Columbia Journalism School in New York City. When she's not reporting on wealth and poverty, she's writing about food and family.
