Nassau County lawmakers and the mayor of Freeport have called for an investigation into the village police’s use of force in an arrest this week.
Akbar Rogers fled Freeport Police at his home Tuesday, after he evaded officers in a high-speed chase earlier in the week.
Cellphone video of the arrest sparked the inquiry.
Seven Freeport police officers appear in the video. The all-white officers restrain Rogers, who is black.
Long Island civil rights groups and minority communities are outraged.
The Nassau County District Attorney’s office is investigating.
