Bellone Must Release Information On Ronkonkoma Arena, Court Rules

A New York State Supreme Court judge has ordered documents related to a proposed $1 billion sports arena in Ronkonkoma to be handed over to the Suffolk County comptroller for an audit.

A judge says County Executive Steve Bellone’s office must comply with a subpoena to submit how the developers of a proposed sports arena, hotel and commercial space in Ronkonkoma were selected.

Republican town supervisors from Islip and Brookaven called the selection process flawed. The developers claimed to have built a Seattle-based sports arena.

County Comptroller John Kennedy launched the audit last year. Bellone handed over some, but not all, of the documents, and Kennedy filed a subpoena for the rest.

The judge says Kennedy’s audit is within his jurisdiction as comptroller and is not politically driven.

Kennedy is challenging Bellone for the county executive seat in November.
