A jury in Wisconsin has awarded $450,000 to the father of a boy killed in the 2012 Newtown shooting. The man sued a conspiracy theorist who claimed the shooting didn’t happen.
Leonard Pozner’s 6-year-old son Noah was one of 20 children and six educators killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Pozner sued James Fetzer, who wrote a book claiming the shooting was staged by the government. A judge earlier ruled Pozner was defamed by statements in the book, which claimed he fabricated his son’s death certificate.
Pozner has pushed back against conspiracy theorists for years. He encouraged Facebook to remove conspiracy videos and set up a website to debunk conspiracy theories. An unrelated lawsuit brought by some families against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is still ongoing.
