A lawsuit against the Connecticut Department of Corrections from a former inmate at a women’s prison is headed to trial.

Cara Tangreti says she was repeatedly sexually assaulted while she was an inmate at East Lyme’s York Correctional Institute in 2014. She’s suing former Department of Corrections head Scott Semple and others in the department.

Four officers were fired and three were arrested in the aftermath of the case.

York Correctional Institute has faced several recent scandals. Last year a woman sued the state after she gave birth in her jail cell. And the prison reported a string of methadone overdoses earlier this year.

Davis Dunavin loves telling stories, whether on the radio or around the campfire. He started in Missouri and ended up in Connecticut, which, he'd like to point out, is the same geographic trajectory taken by Mark Twain.
