A 14-year-old boy was shot this afternoon in East Haven in what police are calling a “botched robbery.”

It is the first shooting in East Haven this year.

Mayor Joseph Maturo says the teen was shot in an alley that connects Tuttle School with Thompson street. The teen then walked or rode a bike several blocks to French Avenue where he collapsed.

“Responding Fire Department paramedics provided life-saving measures. The juvenile victim was transported to New Haven Hospital, and he is currently listed in stable condition, conscious and talking.”

East Haven Police believe this is an isolated incident. The teenager told police he knows the shooter.

The shooter and two other suspects fled in a silver car.
