Governor Ned Lamont, state officials, Connecticut Airport Authority officials, and project stakeholders at a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site of Bradley International Airport’s new Ground Transportation Center on Thursday. ";

Bradley International Airport broke ground on a $210 million transportation center. The airport says they expect it to be a huge improvement for customer service.

Airport officials say the facility will consolidate rental car companies from the passenger terminal and eliminate the need for a shuttle. They plan to use rental car fees to pay for construction. The center is scheduled to open in three years.

Governor Ned Lamont was among those who broke ground at the facility.

“I like the way they’re doing it here at Bradley Airport. They’re doing user fees, not paid for by the taxpayers of the state. It is a public-private partnership. And look what this is gonna look like in three years! That’s called the future.”

Officials say a transit center will link passengers with a bus service, including a route to the Hartford Line.

They say there are ongoing efforts to eventually build a light rail link between the airport and the commuter rail service.
