An animal rights group staged a protest at a small dairy farm in Riverhead, Long Island, on Sunday.

The Hamptons Vegans say the protestors outside of Goodale Farms were against the practice of repeated artificial insemination of cows. They also say calves are taken away from their mothers soon after birth and develop nutritional deficiencies.

Online news outlet RiverheadLOCAL reports Hal Goodale claims to have never used those practices in his 10 years on the farm.

Goodale says cows can produce up to six times more milk than their calves can drink. He says cows can be become ill if not milked.
