Comptroller Helps New Yorkers Claim Millions In Lost Money

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli wants to help Long Island residents search for lost and forgotten money.

More than a million old bank accounts, utility deposits, uncashed checks, insurance claims and stocks have been left unclaimed by Long Islanders.

DiNapoli oversees about $660 million in unclaimed funds that he says Nassau and Suffolk County residents are unaware belong to them.

Residents can search a database and claim their money on the comptroller’s website.

DiNapoli estimates his office returns more than $1.5 million a day to rightful owners.
