U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 65 people last week on Long Island and in New York City for immigration violations. Most had been previously deported.

Sixty-four of the 65 people arrested during “Operation Cross Check” had been previously deported, and had returned illegally to the country.

Forty-eight have been convicted of crimes.

Nine are being held for prosecution, while the rest are being processed for deportation.

ICE released a statement that criticized so-called “sanctuary cities” and Democratic politicians. They said that 29 of those arrested were released by local authorities, despite having an active detainer.

The agency also says that because of this, they have no choice but to conduct “at large” arrests in neighborhoods and work sites. They warn there will be “collateral” arrests.
