Two West Haven police officers were shot on Wednesday morning while executing a state search warrant at an apartment on Grand Avenue in New Haven.

New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson said the suspect engaged in a standoff with officers and died in the shootout.

“The inspector general has arrived, and as per state statute, they are taking over the scene. The two officers are at the hospital being treated,” Jacobson said.

The officers' injuries are not life-threatening, according to Jacobson.

State law requires the inspector general to investigate when a police officer uses deadly force.

“They've been very thorough in the past, and we're confident that they will share the details when they can,” New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said.

The name of the deceased suspect, or what they were accused of, has not been released.
According to police, there were three other people in the apartment during the shootout, including an 8-year-old. None were injured.
