A concert of Americana and spirituals spanning 2 centuries.
The Argentine tango has long been part of the Classical repertoire. In Ridotto the traditional Tango is performed by two dancers (“daring, seductive”) and the Pedro Giraudo Quartet (Grammy Winner Best Tango Album)
Charis Chamber Voices present Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental St. John Passion, 300 years after its premiere. Performances are Saturday May 4, 7 pm, in the O'Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College in Purchase and Sunday May 5, 4 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. Artistic Director Jeremy Wiggins conducts.
The starring role of the Evangelist will be sung by Grammy-nominated British tenor Ryland Angel and international bass-baritone Christopher Grundy will sing the role of Jesus. Concertmaster Nelva TeBrake has assembled some of the finest Baroque instrumentalists in the NY region. The work will be sung in its original German.
Saturday night’s performance will include a pre-concert lecture at 6pm. Charis’s famous wine & cheese reception will follow each concert.
Tickets are $30 ($25 for seniors and $20 for students). They may be purchased in advance through the Charis website, www.charisvocals.com, or at the door.
Charis is an auditioned chorus of about 30 men and women from Westchester County, NY, and Fairfield County, CT. Founded in 1994, the group is renowned for its diverse repertoire, unique blend of voices and captivating performances.

Musical highlights include Fleetwood Macked tribute band, Reverb, The Big Bay Band, and a classic rock lineup on May 19 featuring Gimme All Your Lovin' (ZZ Top tribute), The Strange Parade (The Doors tribute) and Penny Lane (Beatles tribute).
Fair admission: $5 (free for kids under 36" tall). Parking is free.
Unlimited ride wristbands (for riders 36" & taller) are $42 on-site ($40 cash); $25 online through May 8 (valid Monday - Thursday only); or online before 5 pm May 9 for $29, 2/$55 or 4/$99. Ride tickets are also available on-site and discounted online pre-sale.

Whether your singing experience is car stereo karaoke, a concert stage, or somewhere in between, all are welcome! Inspired by research that suggests group singing improves quality of life for all humans, this is casual, community-based music making designed to be accessible to everyone.
Led by Montville Music teachers Ms. Claire Scott and Mr. Joshua Cushing, you will learn songs in unison and harmony that are customized for the evening! Complimentary coffee and tea will be provided by the Montville High School Music Boosters. Voluntary donations will be collected to support the Oakdale Elementary music program.

Seymour Library welcomes back Irish music troubadours Paul Pender and Deirdre McMorrow. Paul is a singer/guitarist songwriter from Dublin, Ireland who now resides in Durham, Connecticut. He is also an author, filmmaker and owned an Irish pub in Wallingford. Deirdre McMorrow, formerly of the band "Bangers and Mash" plays the traditional Irish fiddle. Together they will play a program of traditional old favorites and original Celtic songs.
