Free Colonial Pottery and Spinning Demonstrations

Free Colonial Pottery and Spinning Demonstrations

Seymour Library welcomes Erich and Janice Steinhagen, who are holding a special program on Saturday, March 28. The day will have live demonstrations of their Colonial era crafts running Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.

Erich Steinhagen will first have his pottery demonstration from 10 am to 12 pm. He will discuss the history behind the works he makes--he will show examples of pottery reproductions and historically inspired pieces. Erich's potter's wheel will be front and center as Erich shows how he throws pots and discusses steps in making finished pottery pieces.

Next Janice Steinhagen from 1:00 pm to 3 pm will present her own demonstration on fabric making in the Colonial period. She will show examples of raw fibers — wool, flax, and cotton — and how they are sourced, prepared for spinning, and woven into usable fabric. Janice will give demonstrations and spinning and loomwork.

This program is free and no registration is needed. The program is suitable for children and adults of all ages. Call the Library at 203-888-3903 for more information.
