From WSHU's daytime and evening classical programs, Emily Boyer and Lauren Rico give you a heads-up on some of the best music they've selected.

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor answers Brahms

Library of Congress/public domain

At just 19 years old, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was told: don’t imitate Brahms.
So he didn’t—he answered him. His Clarinet Quintet uses the same instruments and structure as Brahms’s, but speaks in a voice all its own—youthful, lyrical, and full of energy. Hear it tonight on 91.1, 107.5, and our music stream.
