It is quite possibly the most famous overture in operatic history. Even its composer was impressed with his handiwork, saying it was so close to genius that it was often mistaken for it. Not the most modest of comments, but I guess when you’re talking about Gioachino Rossini and his “William Tell Overture,” a little pride is appropriate!
