New Haven’s mental health crisis response team, Elm City COMPASS, is expanding. The team will have more staff, longer hours and will be deployed without police officers and firefighters.

For people experiencing mental health crises in Connecticut, the emergency room is often the only option for stabilization. But a transformed 3-story home in the Edgewood district of New Haven called the REST Center aims to change that.

Elm City COMPASS supports local police, fire and EMS departments by responding to mental health, substance abuse and housing insecurity calls. They are unarmed and aim to comfort residents who are in crisis.
