A ribbon cutting ceremony for SUNY Empire State College was held Thursday in Selden. The campus offers modern learning, meeting and working facilities for students and the community.

The State University of New York has opened a new branch of Empire State College on Long Island.

The Selden location is Empire’s fourth on the Island, which has about 150 students. The branch also has facilities for both in-person and online courses.

Governor Cuomo says the $14 million campus is environmentally sustainable with state-of-the-art facilities.

Empire State College focuses on older students and awards college credit for prior work experience. The other campuses are in Hauppauge, Old Westbury and Riverhead.

Desiree D'Iorio serves as the Long Island Bureau Chief for WSHU.
