The command master chief of the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, has resigned effective immediately.

Brett VerHulst resigned from his Coast Guard duties, but not his rank. VerHulst is still a master chief in the Coast Guard, and will be reassigned to the Coast Guard Research and Development Center in New London.

An Academy spokesperson says VerHulst gave no reason for his resignation. The Coast Guard plans to investigate and replace the vacancy.
