Associated Press
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo speaks at COVID testing facility in New Rochelle on March 13, 2020

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in the region:

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has called on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to start building emergency hospitals as the state is running short on emergency room beds.

Meanwhile, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has cancelled all public school classes in the state. Connecticut students will still be able to receive the school lunches to take home.

All Long Island schools are closed for two weeks. Plans are being developed to provide meals to students who need them.

New York now has at least three deaths due to the coronavirus. All three had underlying health conditions. The latest is a 74-year-old woman.

The number of confirmed cases in New York is up to at least 729, with at least 47 in Suffolk, 98 in Nassau, and 172 in Westchester County. 314 Nassau residents are in mandatory quarantine.

Connecticut officials say there are at least 26 cases connected to the state, with new cases in Hartford, New Haven, Westport, Bethlehem, Darien, Norwalk and Greenwich. Two of the cases involve New York residents who were healthcare workers in Connecticut.
