Here’s the latest on the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in the region:
A second person has been diagnosed with the virus in Connecticut. The person is being treated at Bridgeport Hospital. This brings to four the number of cases connected to the state, the first two being healthcare workers who live, and are being treated in New York.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says the state will soon have the ability to do more than 600 tests for the coronavirus. This comes as the state has acquired a second test kit. So far, only about 50 people have been tested.
New York now has at least 142 coronavirus cases — more than any other state in the country. There are 17 confirmed cases in Nassau County, and one in Suffolk. The Executive Director of the Port Authority has tested positive. He worked at JFK Airport helping with the screening of arriving passengers.
New York will produce and distribute hand sanitizer and disinfectant to schools, municipal facilities and coronavirus hotspots … to prevent price gouging.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade in New Haven has been postponed.
Sacred Heart University in Fairfield cancelled classes today and scheduled online classes through March. The University of New Haven has also cancelled classes.
On Long Island, Hofstra University has cancelled classes this week, and will have a revised schedule after the school returns from Spring Break in two weeks.
