Online Consumer Fraud Top Complaint For New York AG Office

Data shows New Yorkers are fed up with attempts to steal their personal data online. Over 4,000 complaints about online consumer fraud were fielded by state prosecutors last year.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James says internet-related consumer fraud topped the list of complaints received by her office in 2019.

Consumers had the most grievances about data breaches, data privacy and internet scams.

They also had complaints about offline services, including automobile purchases, and home repair and construction.

James says data is not just a reflection of how consumers were targeted in the past year but also a sign of caution for the future.
