President Donald Trump’s 2021 budget proposal reduces the number of Virginia-class submarines built each year by Connecticut-based General Dynamics’ Electric Boat, from two to one sub.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says it’s a bad move, but doubts the state’s congressional delegation can get it reversed.
“That drives up the cost of things, doesn’t do anything for national security. It’s a bad move. You know Joe Courtney and our delegation is pushing pretty hard. But they may be pushing on a string.”

The cut is part of the U.S. Navy’s plan to dial back shipbuilding in the coming five years.
