Electric Boat To Add Thousands Of Jobs In Coming Years, Courtney Says

Congressman Joe Courtney addresses attendees at the Electric Boat Legislative Breakfast on Monday.

Connecticut Democratic Congressman Joe Courtney says the future for submarine manufacturing in Connecticut has never been brighter.

Courtney says nearly half of the federal government’s $11 billion shipbuilding budget was for submarines last year.

“The priority that I think has steadily grown over the years in terms of recognizing the undersea domain as an area that we really need to invest in. The numbers don’t lie.”

Courtney spoke at an event for Electric Boat. It’s one of the state’s largest employers with 17,000 workers in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The company wants to add thousands more employees over the next five years to help fulfill billions of dollars worth of new submarine contracts through 2040.
