State Sen. LaValle Won't Seek Reelection

Office of N.Y. State Sen. Ken LaValle

Republican New York State Senator Ken LaValle will not seek reelection this year. He has represented eastern Long Island since 1977. He’s the longest serving senator in New York.

LaValle has introduced legislation to protect the environment, preserve land and expand education and health care during his time in office.

Stony Brook University renamed its stadium after LaValle in 2002.

He plans to make a formal announcement of his retirement on Friday.

Desiree D'Iorio serves as the Long Island Bureau Chief for WSHU.
