Long Island emergency communications systems received nearly $2 million to help improve dispatch services and response times.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo awarded more than $45 million to 57 counties and New York City to allow local governments to expand emergency response capabilities and overall public safety operations.
Nassau and Suffolk Counties each received nearly $1 million.
The funding will help municipalities coordinate between county, state and federal agencies, in addition to local police and emergency crews stationed in Long Island’s 100 village centers.
The money will bolster public safety radio coverage with new equipment at towers and antenna sites, support dispatch centers and deploy new technologies to create “Next Generation 911” systems.
