Nassau and Suffolk Counties have announced a joint commission to educate people about tolerance after recent acts of anti-Semitic vandalism.
The island-wide task force against anti-Semitisim and symbols of hate will bring together law enforcement, religious leaders and politicians to develop an educational program.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says task force volunteers will specifically try to reach young people and teach them about tolerance and the values of diversity.
“Unfortunately, with our fractured way of getting news, with social media and conspiracy theories out there, we need to do a better job of making sure that kids, young people, know the facts and know the truth.”
Group members will be announced in the coming weeks.
