U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut cast a vote this month that was not counted in a local election.
Hearst Connecticut Media reports Murphy voted by absentee ballot in Old Lyme, but it was not counted because his name had been placed on the inactive voter list.
Murphy moved his family to Washington, D.C., shortly after his election. Murphy registered in Old Lyme where his parents own a summer home.
An attempt by the local Registrar of Voters to confirm Murphy’s voter application failed because no one was living in the house when the notice arrived.
Murphy said his mistake underscores the importance of being vigilant about voter registration.
