Connecticut employers added 3,600 new jobs in September, and the state unemployment rate remains unchanged at 3.6%. That’s according to the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics survey.
September’s job growth represents the third straight month of job gains in Connecticut. However, the bureau has revised the state’s August job gains down from 2,800 to 1,600 jobs.
Peter Gioia, an economist with the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, says the trend is in the right direction, but the September numbers require a wait-and-see approach because of the unusually high increase in education and health care jobs.
“It’s better than what we saw, say during earlier in the year. But we are going to need several months of this type of job gains before we can really feel good about jobs in Connecticut.”
The September survey also showed mixed results in two categories. Manufacturing gained 600 jobs, while financial services declined by 100 jobs.
