Bellone's Budget Will Lead To $20 Million Deficit, Says Review Office

Office of N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo

The Suffolk County Legislature’s Budget Review Office says County Executive Steve Bellone’s proposed $3.2 billion budget could create a $20 million deficit by the end of 2020.

The proposed budget has revenues of $4.1 billion and expenses of $3.2 billion.

But legislative budget analysts say there will be a deficit from imbalances in the police district and general funds.

Budget Director Eric Naughton disagrees. He says any deficit would be within the margin of error.

A recent report by the state comptroller found Suffolk County the most fiscally stressed county in New York for the second year in a row.
