U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut says states need more federal funding to prevent Russian interference in the 2020 presidential election.
Blumenthal says while there are no reported threats for this year’s primary or election, the nation is under attack.
“Vladimir Putin’s playbook: disrupt democracy. Disrupt their election. Disrupt the core of our democratic process. That’s his playbook.”
A bipartisan Senate report released in July found that Russian hackers targeted elections in all 50 states.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has blocked a House bill that calls for $1 billion for election security. Blumenthal says even $1 billion is not enough to protect the nation’s voting systems.
