The Connecticut Department of Public Health cited multiple hospitals for violations of patient safety during recent statewide inspections.
The 36 new inspection reports cover hospital visits over the past few years. Multiple hospitals were cited for various reasons, like objects being left in patients after surgeries, child abduction and sexual assault.
These violations sometimes resulted in patient injuries and deaths.
Inspectors make routine, unannounced visits to hospitals every two to four years. Health officials say they often inspect them more frequently in response to complaints and investigations.
The visits include facility tours, staff observations and document examination.
Hospitals are required to create corrective action plans after they receive poor marks to prevent future violations.
