East Hampton’s old town hall building is scheduled for demolition today.
The building has served as East Hampton’s town hall since the early 1960s. And it has seen better days. No one has occupied the dilapidated building since 2010.
Officials have removed records from the basement. Asbestos has been treated. Communication and water lines rerouted.
The demolition is expected to take about a week.
The town’s current complex, with better energy efficiency and environmental protections, has an old feel…it’s made up of historic buildings donated to the town.
